United Biscuits

United Biscuits streamlined learning and development, releasing nearly 500 staff hours in three months and cutting training costs by 89%

Introduction

United Biscuits is the leading manufacturer of sweet and savoury snack foods in the UK. With seven manufacturing facilities in the UK alone and production lines running 24/7, the company has a large workforce spanning all aspects of biscuit manufacture, from production to sales and customer service.

With 4,600 UK staff, 80% of whom work on the factory floor in varying shift patterns, United Biscuits needed a solution that would streamline the management and delivery of training, improve access to learning and minimise production downtime. They also needed to integrate data from legacy systems and make this available in a central location to evidence employee compliance and track and manage skills gaps quickly and effectively.

Why Kallidus?

The relationship with Kallidus began during the tender process: “For me, Kallidus really stood out. They spoke with conviction and gave us real-life examples of the benefits other companies had experienced since implementing their LMS, which helped put things into context. It felt that they were speaking our language – they really understood what we were saying, what we were aiming for, and wanted to help us get there.” Lisa McCandless, Head of Learning and Development

The results

The flexibility and accessibility of Kallidus LMS has helped United Biscuits achieve key business benefits and make a significant return on investment.

  • With e-learning costing just £8 per head, per session, compared to £78 per head under their previous classroom-based activities, United Biscuits have reduced training costs by 89% and saved almost 500 staff hours in the first three months alone.

  • Given that every three years a third of the food-handling workforce need to refresh their safety training, Kallidus LMS will produce substantial compliance training savings when implemented across Europe and beyond.

  • Multi-platform capability has enabled staff to access learning at the time of need, whether they are onsite or at home, minimising production downtime.
