Job Description: Instructional Designer

Reporting to: Head of Content Development


As an Instructional Designer you will be responsible for the design of engaging and effective e-learning content. Working closely with subject matter experts you will establish learning goals and requirements, identify learning objectives, write storyboards and where appropriate use rapid development tools to create e-learning. You will have a good knowledge of adult learning principles and theories with the ability to apply these practically to e-learning design.

A confident communicator you will lead meetings with subject matter experts and other stakeholders and drive projects through development to timely completion. You will be comfortable in pressurised situations as part of your role will be to attend sales pitches and to write treatments for sales proposals.


• Undertake instructional design across multiple projects

• Undertake pre-sales learning designs and treatments for the Sales Team and to attend sales        pitches to present ideas

• Meet with clients to consult on project goals and requirements

• Manage subject matter expertise/research content where necessary

• Produce and maintain key content documentation including content outlines, storyboards, asset    lists, transcripts

• Provide regular updates and reports to clients and project managers

• Build e-learning using rapid tools when required

• Commission graphics/artwork/video production/technical development as appropriate in liaison    with colleagues in the development team

• The ability to engage with complex and unfamiliar subject matter
• Experienced instructional designer and knowledgeable about adult learning theories and    principles
• Enthusiasm for and knowledge of a broad range of learning technologies
• Wide ranging knowledge of e-learning design and development approaches
• Experience of using Authoring Tools especially Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate;  knowledge of Learning Management Systems
• Excellent communication skills and customer facing skills and experience is a must
• Ability to work independently and to use own initiative;
• Organised and efficient
• The ability to juggle and keep all the balls in the air
• Conscientious and hardworking


• At least 5 years’ demonstrable experience working as a Learning/Instructional Designer in the  corporate sector
• At least 3 years’ experience writing instructional/learning treatments for sales proposals
